Lady Business News: Newscast October ... 14:09
From Todd Aikin to ToshGate to Anne-Marie Slaughter, women's issues have burst through the headlines recently. Feminists have been accused by the likes of Louis C.K. to have a terrible sense of humor. Which begs the question: why are we so uptight about rape jokes, structural misogyny, pay-gaps, and reproductive rights? C’mon, lighten up, women!
Enter "Lady Business" a new series about a feminist comedy news show. Equal parts "The Newsroom" and "The Colbert Report," "Lady Business " mockuments the making of a satirical women's news show (airing monthly, for biological reasons), while offering hilarious and scathing socio-political commentary through the actual broadcast show: "Lady Business: News On The Rag."
Emmy Award winner Michael Cervieri is the executive producer of Lady Business, in association with the Future Journalism Project. Rebecca Whitehurst and Jenny Grace co-produce and co-write the series.
"Lady Business" stars co-anchors Rebecca Whitehurst (Diane Paulus’ “The Donkey Show,” Commonwealth Shakespeare’s “Comedy Of Errors”) : the earnestly professional, uptight 2nd waver who's constantly trying to reconcile her conservative politics with her strident feminism, and Jenny Grace (Nora in PST’s “A Doll’s House,” Max Weissberg’s “Summertime”): a wild child 3rd waver with a relaxed work ethic and a radical liberal ethos. Jenny and Rebecca fiercely debate their opposing viewpoints, but rally together to ridicule the absurd.
